Foldocs: create a website from a folder of documents

I made something! Foldocs: a website made from a folder of documents.

Foldocs allows you to easily build a website from a shared Google Drive or shared Nextcloud folder. See, for example foldocs.com itself: it is built from this public Google Drive folder: a collection of Google Documents, in a nested folder structure. Each folder becomes a section, and each Document becomes a page (or post).

Technically, Foldocs is a python script that monitors folders, and rebuilds pages when documents are updated. This means that editing content or publishing new content is nothing more than working in Google Docs, as you may already be used to. You can also easily collaborate on pages, by collaborating on Google Drive.

The inspiration came from tools like mkdocs, that already support quick and easy publishing of websites using markdown documents. My lab’s website (opengov.nl) is built with mkdocs. But while mkdocs is very quick, convenient, and easy for geeks, I figured the same underlying idea could be of interest to a broader audience.

Foldocs is fully vibe-coded, and open source. Check it out at: https://github.com/graus/foldocs
